The Appreciation of All Things

It’s often difficult to find the positive things in life when there appears to be so much negative. You question why everything is the way it is and struggle to see what is right in your life. But sometimes we need to look beyond all the negativity and appreciate the things that we DO have.

Today, me, hubby and the kids went to my nephew’s birthday party and we had a fantastic time. The food was great, the company was fantastic and all in all, we had a really enjoyable day. And seeing the girls run around in the play centre brought a big smile to my face. They looked so happy, so blissful; I almost envied the ease at which their happiness was attained.

It’s funny how when you grow up, with all the responsibility comes the stress. You forget what it’s like to enjoy life the way a child does – by enjoying the simple things. It may appear impractical as we, the adults, always have more than a worry or two, but sometimes we need to try to look beyond that and appreciate just the positive things in our lives, however small they may be.

You need to ask yourself: “Is the thing I’m worried about really worth worrying about in a months’ time? In a years’ time?” It may feel like the biggest worry at this very moment, but with all the challenges we face in life we are always bound to feel like this. We just need to trust that we will overcome this challenge, just like we have done with the other ones before.

Our family may be facing our own struggles at the moment, but everyday I wake up knowing that I have a husband who loves me and two children who are proud to call me their mother. I try not to dwell on the things we don’t have, I smile at the things we do. I’m thankful that we’re healthy, I’m thankful that we have each other; and I appreciate all the things that life has given me so far.

As of right now, life may not be following the path that you want it to be on, maybe it’s not even close; but that is why life is considered a journey. Sometimes things will fall into place, sometimes they may not; but you need to look at your life and remember everything you DO have. It might not seem like it at first, but you probably have a lot more to appreciate than you realise.
